
The Rev. J. James Gerhart, Priest-in-Charge
On behalf of Bishop Brewer, it is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of The Reverend (John) James “Jim” Gerhart, Jr. on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 in Ocala, Florida.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, January 22, 1950, Jim was a graduate of Spring Garden College, earned his Master of Divinity degree from Episcopal Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky, and was ordained to the Diaconate (1977) and Priesthood (1979) by The Right Reverend Addison Hosea in the Diocese of Lexington. Following his ordination as a priest he served three parishes in Kentucky – Church of St. Michael the Archangel and St. Raphael’s Church in Lexington, and St. Stephen’s Church, Latonia. Jim relocated to the Diocese of Southwest Florida in 1973 where he served at St. Elizabeth’s, Zephyrhills, St. Luke’s Church, Ellenton, St. Andrew’s, Spring Hill, and Good Samaritan, Clearwater before accepting a call to become Priest-in-charge at Holy Faith, Dunnellon in this diocese in 2009.
In the past few months, Jim faced considerable health challenges. He was hospitalized, underwent surgery and was recovering at Timber Ridge Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Ocala.
Father Jim's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. Please contact the church office by October 21 if you plan to attend.
